Christmas Eve

Happy Christmas Eve to everyone. Sophie and I are stuck in Cedar Rapids and missing everyone in Wayland.

Yesterday at my doctor's appointment, the nurse did a urine dipstick on me and decided after taking her sweet time to read the dipstick, that I had too much protein in my urine. Although my blood pressure was perfect, they deemed it necessary that I do bloodwork and a 12-hour Creatinine Clearance to rule out too much protein in the urine. Hello, toilet hat.

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure and protein in the urine that develops after the 20th week of pregnancy. The only way to cure preeclampsia is to deliver the baby, yes, deliver the baby. It is the most common of the dangerous pregnancy complications; and it may affect both the mother and the fetus.

Now, since we all know that the train ticket prices don't come down until after January 5th, you know that I can't deliver this child early.

So, that pretty much sealed the deal on me traveling for 12 hours since I have to return my urine to the lab tomorrow.

My plan was to try to come back on Christmas Day early, anyway due to the ice/sleet/snow/freezing rain that we are supposed to get, but I might have been stranded at mom's alone if Harold would've left and then I couldn't get home.

The thought of Sophie and I alone in mom's house with nothing standing between us and a Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake, but 12.5 cu feet of deep freeze is a scary thought. So, we played it safe and stranded ourselves in Ely with this:
