Safety First

Finally, we got around to fixing the front step to make it safe or safer at least, for Lia.  Remember the huge drop on the right side of the door? (see picture)  Well, finally we got a railing put up.  We still want to add a railing down the step by the front door too, just to make it look finished, but we have to wait for the guy who did it to bring the railing part (that might be months), but at least the highest part is protected. Now, I just hope she doesn't walk through the flowers to fall off the side of the retaining wall.

Now that the railing is up, I can paint the railing, door, and basement window brown to match the rest of the trim.  I'm thinking about spray painting the railing an oiled bronze color, because I think it will look better than painting it a flat brown color like the trim.  I think it's going to be a tedious project.  We'll see.  I'm pretty sure it's going to involve mom watching Lia all weekend, whenever I'm ready to paint.

Anyone have any luck or tips for painting iron?
